Heroes come in many shapes and sizes. From family members to comic book vigilantes, we all have someone we look up to. Think of a moment during the pandemic where you experienced or witnessed heroism of some kind. How did it feel? Who or what was the hero? Take time to illustrate someone who is a hero.

Choose your hero—your hero does not have to be a real-life person, but they can be. What’s important is that you choose someone or something that has had a meaningful impact on your life during recent events.Draw or paint your hero, but do not draw an exact representation of your hero.&#38;nbsp; Focus instead on attributes that make them heroic to you — such as having strength, courage, moral integrity, and determination; or being helpful, honest, inspirational, self-sacrificing or selfless. Try to add context or a narrative to the drawing. For example, if your hero were someone who saved you from drowning,&#38;nbsp; draw the act of that person saving you rather than just a portrait.&#38;nbsp;Share your drawing using the submission form at the top of the page!

Everyone is feeling the mental toll of the pandemic and a politically turbulent year, but it’s just as important to check in on yourself as it is to check on your friends. Sometimes your thoughts and feelings are too heavy to say out loud, or you just want to keep them private. Writing down your thoughts and feelings and putting them out into the world can lift some weight off your mind.

Find a piece of paper, a writing utensil, and an envelope.Create your own secret code/language. Do this by assigning random symbols to each letter of the alphabet. The more random the symbols, the more secret your code will be.Think about something that’s weighing on your mind or heart —something happening in the world, an embarrassing thing you said, a fear, or something new and exciting. Try to think of something that you haven’t spoken aloud.Please write it down. Then use your code language to transcribe your letter. You can also skip transcription and write it directly in your code. Please take a photo of your coded letter and post to the submission form at the top of this page!Seal just the letter in an envelope.Now you have a secret letter! Give the letter to someone you trust to hold your secret. Destroy your code’s key to keep the letter secret forever.

When everything in our everyday lives moves fast, it’s difficult to notice the small details around us. The pandemic forced us to slow down and spend more time in our homes. It is essential to take advantage of this slowness caused by the pandemic and make its best. Slowing down can be an opportunity to look at things from a new perspective. 

For this project, you will be making a collection of unnoticed moments — through observation and reflection. You will base a series of drawings on your discoveries. Choose three separate windows in your house from which to look outside. Look for details that might seem ordinary. For example, your view might be of a street you have passed by thousands of times. However, spending time slowing down and observing from your chosen spot, you may begin to notice something new in the familiar and ordinary. 

Draw three 5 x 5-inch horizontal squares.Choose three windows that seem “ordinary” to you (one for each square).Look out each of the three windows for about 3–5 minutes. Find three things you never noticed before in each window. Squint your eyes to find a color that best represents what you saw. Find a color pencil or marker for each color.For each square, use only one color to draw the new element or object.Your drawings can be as detailed or as simple as you like. Make them your own.Write a sentence under your drawing with a black pencil or pen describing, explaining, or listing the three discoveries you drew. Include why you may not have noticed these objects before.Take a photo of your drawing and share it using the submission form at the top of this page!Submit a response

The mission of this prompt is to express personal beliefs and fight injustice — add your voice to the struggles and movements of today. Protesting is part of American culture and is an essential expression of our constitutional rights. Subjects for a protest poster might present a point of view on Climate Change, Women’s Rights, Immigration, LGBTQ+ Issues, and, of course, #BlackLivesMatter.

First, think about something that you stand for. Ask yourself the following: What is something you are against? What is something that you want to change in the world? What is a personal statement or quote that's meaningful to you?Do some research into other protests, movements, and/or actions that have taken place in support of the cause or idea you stand for.Create a poster to communicate your message. Now, more than ever, what do we all really need? A good laugh! Comedy is a challenging art form, but a rewarding one! And being able to make someone laugh (even if it's just yourself) is worth the challenge. Even BAD jokes are funny, so just roll with it! You’ll be creating a piece of physical art that represents a joke you made up, or a joke you heard that you find hilarious. You can create an audio clip of you telling your joke to someone, or you could make a sticker, a poster, a button, or even just a drawing. How you deliver your joke is up to you!
Watch successful comedians, or movies/media that make you laugh: Watching/listening to comedy can loosen up our funny bones, and get us in the right frame of mind. You also might hear a joke so funny you must immortalize it through this project. My personal favorite comedian is John Mulaney.&#38;nbsp;If making up your own joke, decide what type of joke you want to make or decide on a joke to use. Observational humor is relatable. This means commenting on things we all experience, like, how bad school lunches are, or about current events, like how we’re all having to stay home so much now, or wearing masks everywhere. Storytelling draws the audience in, and telling a funny story that actually happened to you can be quite hilarious. Also, it’s somewhat easier because you were there! As they say, “it’s funny because it’s true!”After you have your joke — illustrate, or depict, or recreate it in some way.&#38;nbsp;It doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated, this could be by hand with whatever tools you have lying around, or on the computer, digital art or just an audio file. Whatever works best for you.&#38;nbsp;Share your final product using the submission form at the top of this page! Music is an emotional outlet. Listening to music you have a positive association with can boost your mood. Oftentimes we associate songs or artists with different events or memories in our life. Perhaps it's a song that reminds them of family or best friends. A song their family cleaned the house to for guests? A song their mom sang while cooking?&#38;nbsp; Spend time with someone you're close to and learn what memories give them joy.

Ask a friend, classmate, parent or sibling to find the name of a song they associate with a positive memory. Don’t let them tell you the memory — only the name of the song.Grab some pencils, paper and whatever drawing materials you have available to you.Listen to the song they gave you. While you’re listening, imagine a scene. Draw the scene and/or write a story while you listen.After you are done, have them tell you the story behind the song. Ask them how the song makes them feel. Share your scene with them. Is that scene you imagined similar to their memory? Do you feel you would associate the song with the memory they did? Did they have a different emotional reaction to the song than you did?Put the name of the song on the drawing you made and upload a photo of your scene using the submission form at the top of this page! You can even give the picture to the person who gave you the memory.
